What a coating is, and the four things it is not
A ceramic coating is a hard, glossy layer that sits on top of your paint. At Iridescent it goes on inside the shop at 2nd and Greene in Marietta, applied by Ben as an authorized Aqua Tek Coatings installer. The shop's own line says it plainly: Drive with Dazzle. The shine is real, and so are the limits, and Ben goes through both before you pick a package.
Four myths are worth clearing up first. A coating is not scratch-proof: it takes the brunt of minor abrasion, but a deep scratch is still a deep scratch. It does not end washing: the car gets easier to clean, yet dirt still has to come off. Coatings are not all the same: formulation and the way it is applied decide how one performs. And none is permanent: performance fades with time, which is why these packages are sold by the year.
What you do get is water that beads and rolls off the panel, carrying loose dirt with it. When a coated car beads after a rinse, the coating is doing its job.

Why Ben polishes the paint before he coats it
A coating locks in whatever is underneath it. Swirl marks, haze and fine scratches that are still in the clear coat stay there, and a glossy layer on top only makes them easier to see. That is why both Aqua Tek packages at Iridescent require a paint correction or polish appointment first.
Ben's training follows the same order. His ceramic coating training came through the Elite Detailer Academy, and his polishing through the Intensive Polishing Training Course at Big Foot Detailing Academy. Correct the paint, then coat it, never the other way around.
Choosing between the two is a question of years and surfaces. Singular 6 Year coats paint and body work and the windshield. Freestyle 2 Year coats paint and body work, and it can be upgraded to cover every exterior surface: paint, glass, trim and wheels. Either one is a 3 to 5 day turnaround, and Ben confirms your exact price before any work begins.
Keeping it right after it leaves the corner
The first wash is discounted when you bring the car back 2 to 4 weeks after the coating goes on. Every coating Ben installs also comes with scheduled maintenance washes offered at a specialty price, so the upkeep has a plan from day one.
Washing a coated car is still washing. A two bucket hand wash, the same method that opens every correction at the shop, keeps grit off the paint, and regular maintenance clears the build-up that even a hydrophobic coating cannot repel.
